If your kit has probes, push them into sockets A and B on the right side. Then plug Haldrea in with the USB-C lead and a USB plug (not included). Wait for the square code on its screen.
In the app, tap Set up a Haldrea first. If you already have an account, tap Set up a Haldrea on your home screen.
On Scan the code on your Haldrea, tap Scan with the camera and point your phone at the code. If the camera can't read it, choose Serial and code and type them in.
When you see Live from your Haldrea, tap Continue, then choose your Wi-Fi and enter its password.
Wait for three ticks: Wi-Fi joined, Internet reached, Haldrea reached.
On Check the spot, give your Haldrea a name and tap Keep it here. It is already set up for what you bought it for.
Sign in with your email and the 5-digit code we send you. Alerts start once you are signed in.
Keep your phone close to Haldrea while you set it up, with Bluetooth on.
Finishing setup
Sometimes a new Haldrea needs a little longer to finish setting up after it has joined your Wi-Fi. It finishes by itself.
Leave it plugged in. You can close the app.
Its readings and alerts start when it is done.
If the app shows Setup not finished, check Haldrea is plugged in and your Wi-Fi is working. If it still doesn't finish, email hello@haldrea.com.
Wi-Fi
Which networks work: 2.4 GHz home Wi-Fi. Most routers offer it, sometimes under the same name as 5 GHz. Work networks that need a username are not supported.
Password not accepted: tap Try again and enter it again. Passwords are case-sensitive.
Weak signal:Check the spot shows how good the signal is. Moving Haldrea closer to the router helps.
If Haldrea loses its connection, it keeps measuring and shows any alert on its own screen and light. It keeps at least 7 days of readings, and sends them when the connection returns; if it is offline for longer, the oldest are dropped and the app shows the gap. In the app the unit shows Offline since and the time, and if it stays offline you get an alert that it has gone quiet.
Probes
Each probe is made for its job:
Standard, with clips;
Water, with a mount;
Fridge, with a flat lead so the door closes;
Humidity, for a humidor.
Haldrea has two probe sockets on its right side, A and B. Push the plug fully in. You can plug probes in and out while Haldrea is running. Keep a socket capped when no probe is fitted.
Probe fault: if a lead is cut or a probe is pulled out, Haldrea reports a fault, not a reading. Check the plug is fully in, look along the lead for damage, and try the other socket. If the fault stays, contact us.
Other probe: not checked: a probe we didn't make. Haldrea shows its readings, but we haven't checked them.
Water: the steel tips of the temperature probes (Standard, Water and Fridge) can go in water. The Humidity probe must not get wet. Keep the unit and the plugs dry.
Humidor
Haldrea watches the humidity and temperature inside your humidor with the Humidity probe, while Haldrea itself sits outside the box.
Hang the Humidity probe inside the humidor so its tip touches nothing: not the cigars, the humidifier or the wood.
Lay the flat lead across the lid edge, away from the hinges, and close the lid.
Keep the white vented tip dry.
Its starting limits, which you can change: a Warning if humidity stays outside 63 to 73%, or the temperature below 15°C, for 2 hours; Urgent if humidity stays outside 60 to 75%, or the temperature above 24°C, for 2 hours.
Fridge and freezer
Clip or rest the Fridge probe's tip on a middle shelf, away from the door and the back wall. Its flat lead lets the door close.
In Fridge and Freezer use, the reading and its alerts are smoothed over about 15 minutes, so a door opened for a moment does not set off an alert.
Haldrea's own screen also shows Air now: the probe's reading at this moment.
Alerts
Each unit has two levels: Warning and Urgent. On Alerts and limits you set the limits for each, and how long Haldrea waits before it tells you, so a passing blip is not an alert.
How alerts reach you: first a push notification. If the alert is still open after 2 minutes, an email too. If it is still open after an hour, one more push. When it clears, you get an all-clear. Allow notifications for the Haldrea app when your phone asks.
Everyone you add on Family and sharing gets the alerts, unless they turn alerts off in the app.
An alert stays open until the reading is back in range. You can't clear it from the unit; the app is where you see it.
On the unit: Haldrea shows the alert on its own screen, and its light pulses red slowly.
Alerts need a working internet connection. If your router has no power, alerts are sent when the connection returns.
On Android, please don't use Force stop on the Haldrea app: it turns off the app's notifications until you open it again. Some phones pause apps they think you don't use; if that happens, the app shows you how to let it keep sending alerts.
Alerts can fail or be delayed. Haldrea is not an emergency, security-monitoring or alarm service, so keep any safety device you rely on.
Battery and charging
A rechargeable backup battery keeps Haldrea measuring through a short power cut. Haldrea is meant to stay plugged in.
Charging is automatic whenever the USB-C lead is plugged in. Haldrea won't charge when it is too cold or too hot; it keeps working on USB power and the app says Too cold to charge or Too hot to charge.
Screen paused: when it is too hot or too cold for the screen, it keeps its last picture. Haldrea still measures and sends alerts.
Battery not charging: try a different USB lead or plug. If it keeps happening, contact us.
Charging stopped: Haldrea has stopped charging as a precaution and keeps measuring. Leave it plugged in; we've been told and will reply by the end of the next working day. Don't unplug and replug it to restart charging.
If the case feels hot, looks damaged or smells unusual, unplug it, move it away from anything that could burn, and contact us.
Replacing the battery: you'll need a small Phillips (PH1) screwdriver and a genuine Haldrea replacement pack, which comes with a new case seal. Don't use any other battery.
What the light means
Aqua, steady and dim: watching over, on mains power.
Aqua, a short blink every 30 seconds: on battery.
White, slow pulse: ready to set up.
White, slow pulse with a double flash: setting up through Haldrea's own Wi-Fi.
White, fast blink: connecting.
Amber, slow pulse: offline, still measuring.
Amber, double blink every 5 seconds: needs attention: a probe fault, or a low battery.
Red, slow pulse: an alert.
Aqua, fast blink: updating. Please don't unplug.
Red, fast blink: a factory reset is about to happen.
Updates
Haldrea updates itself. While it updates, the light blinks aqua quickly and the app shows Updating. If an update fails, Haldrea goes back to the previous version by itself.
Where it can go
Use Haldrea indoors or in a sheltered place, between 0 °C and 50 °C. Don't leave it in direct sun or on a heater, and keep the unit dry.
Troubleshooting
No square code on the screen: check the lead and the USB plug, and try another plug.
Bluetooth is not connecting: keep the phone close and make sure Bluetooth is on. After two tries the app offers another way.
The unit shows as offline: check your router is on. Haldrea keeps measuring and sends the readings it kept when it is back online.
A probe fault: see Probes.
I didn't get an alert: check notifications are allowed for the Haldrea app, then contact us with roughly when it happened.
Set it up again over Bluetooth, keeping your data: hold the button for 3 seconds.
Start again from scratch: hold the button for 10 seconds. From 7 seconds the light blinks red quickly; let go before 10 to cancel the reset (it opens Bluetooth setup instead, keeping your data). A reset erases its data, Wi-Fi details and keys.
Changing what it watches
Open the unit and tap Change what it watches, then pick the new use. The app tells you whether your probes suit it, or which probe a socket needs.
Some changes are made straight away. Others need confirming: we email you a link.
Once it is changed, check your limits: they go back to the starting limits for the new use.
Moving, giving away or deleting
Removing a Haldrea: open the unit and choose Remove this Haldrea. This deletes its readings, alerts and changes straight away and can't be undone. Choose Download its history first to keep them.
If the unit is online, it is reset at the same time. If it is offline, hold its button for 10 seconds before you pass it on.
Switching it off to post it: Haldrea keeps running on its battery when unplugged, so switch it off first. Keep it plugged in, open it in the app and choose Switch off. After about 15 seconds its screen says Switched off and asks you to unplug the USB lead: unplug it then. It stays off until you plug it in again, and then starts up by itself. If it is saving battery, the screen can take up to an hour.
